The Houthi movement in Yemen, which has Iranian support, fired the missiles, according to the DOD.

At a press conference, Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder reported that the ship had shot down around eight drones and three ground assault cruise missiles.

The USS Carney was not the target of any missiles or drones fired by the Houthi militia, according to an initial U.S. assessment.

Ryder added that information regarding the engagements was still being examined. We cannot establish with certainty what Israel's targets were the missiles and drones that were launched from Yemen and traveled north along the Red Sea.

Although it's unclear where the Houthi movement launched their missiles, an official stated they were traveling north.

The incident happened on Thursday morning local time, and the missiles were shot down over ocean rather than on land.
